If they rise to the task and break out, they’ll get one million dollars. So far so fun, right? But what starts as a quirky game quickly turns into a nightmare as the competitors realise that whoever’s pulling the strings wants them dead. If you loved The Cabin in the Woods, then this one’s for you. It’s fiendishly good fun with a few corking twists. Directed and scripted by Joel Edgerton, from Garrard Conley’s moving memoir, this thoughtful drama sees the 19-year-old son of a Baptist preacher being pressured into attending a gay conversion therapy camp. In only his second full-length movie, Edgerton has made one of the films of the year. Heartbreaking to watch at times, it features a magnificent performance from Lucas Hedges as the boy erased, plus stunning turns from Kidman and Crowe as his equally anguished parents. 1 FEB 8 FEB On the Basis of Sex TBC A young lawyer fights the system – but can she win? Starring Felicity Jones as the 22 FEB Watch the trailer notorious RBG (as she’s fondly known), it explores – using a landmark case involving fathers’ rights – the uphill battle Ginsburg faced, in terms of prejudice and gender bias, to become one of the United States’ most influential figures.
