Melissa McCarthy
swaps guffaws for
grit in this superb
biographical drama, starring as
real-life celebrity author Lee
Israel. Forced to get creative
when work dries up, Lee begins
forging letters by deceased
writers then selling them for
large sums of money. Featuring
a potentially Oscar ® -winning
turn from McCarthy and an
equally affecting performance
by Richard E. Grant, there’s
nothing to forgive this movie
for – it’s sublime in every way.

Six trapped strangers must

“Find the clues or
die!” This cracking
psychological mystery
sees six strangers willingly
participating in an escape
room challenge. If they rise
to the task and break out,
they’ll get one million dollars.
So far so fun, right? But
what starts as a quirky game
quickly turns into a nightmare
as the competitors realise
that whoever’s pulling the
strings wants them dead.
If you loved The Cabin in
the Woods, then this one’s for
you. It’s fiendishly good fun
with a few corking twists. Directed and scripted
by Joel Edgerton,
from Garrard Conley’s
moving memoir, this thoughtful
drama sees the 19-year-old son
of a Baptist preacher being
pressured into attending a gay
conversion therapy camp.
In only his second full-length
movie, Edgerton has made
one of the films of the year.
Heartbreaking to watch at
times, it features a magnificent
performance from Lucas
Hedges as the boy erased,
plus stunning turns from
Kidman and Crowe as his
equally anguished parents.
