After a two-year hiatus , the Dispute Resolution Section will resume their early bird in person CLE breakfasts at the Buckhead Club and welcomes members and guests to join them . Their first breakfast took place on November 1st . Board Member Roxann Smithers served as the moderator of an enlightening panel discussion on “ The Business of ADR .” The panel featured Ellen Malow , Malow Mediation , Parag Shah , Miles Mediation , and Daniel Gulden , Gulden Dispute Resolution who addressed practical considerations for starting and maintaining a successful and profitable ADR practice . They had a wealth of perspectives and experience on topics including the pros and cons of being independent versus working with an established ADR institution , tips for joining judicial / court panels , advice re pricing strategies and structures , best practices for collections and A / R management , and how women , people of color and / or LGBTQIA ADR professionals are gaining a foothold or not in the ADR industry .

After the holidays , in January 2024 , DRS Board Member Joyce Klemmer will moderate a lunchtime CLE meeting jointly sponsored with the Intellectual Property Section on the topic , “ Mediating the Intellectual Property Case .” DRS Vice Chair Henry Chalmers will moderate a CLE panel on the topic , “ Does that Really Happen in Arbitration ? How Arbitrators Handle Difficult Issues ” at DRS ’ February 7th breakfast meeting at the Buckhead Club . This meeting will be jointly sponsored by DRS and the Litigation Section . On March 6 , another interesting CLE breakfast discussion will be led by Board Member Dan Gulden . The topic will be “ Mediation at the Eleventh Circuit .”
In April , DRS is looking forward to joining with GABWA and the Women in the Profession Section for an afternoon CLE focusing on issues surrounding the legal profession , dispute resolution and mental health , to be followed by a relaxing after work roof top mixer .

On May 1 , DRS will bring its year to a close with a final CLE breakfast meeting jointly sponsored with the Administrative Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia . DRS Board Member Ronit Walker will moderate a panel discussion on “ Government Agencies and ADR : Opportunities , Trends and Best Practices .”
DRS is hard at work to ensure its 2023-2024 calendar of activities is interesting and worthwhile for all who attend and hopes to see you at one or more of these events .
