attention! Important Safety Note:
Xylitol is often being labeled now as " Birch Sugar " or " Wood Sugar." It is a sugar substitute used in food, and is most commonly found in sugar-free candy, gum, mints, baked goods, peanut and nut butters, protein or nutrition products, toothpaste, and some medications and supplements.
Xylitol is extremely toxic and dangerous to dogs, even in relatively small amounts. It causes a rapid drop in blood sugar and can cause liver failure. Symptoms include vomiting, weakness, difficulty walking, tremors, fatigue, collapse, or seizures.
If you suspect your dog has eaten anything containing xylitol, contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital immediately.
Prevent a potential tragedy- always check ingredients in all human food before giving any to your pets!
