Good Neighbor Center: Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Renovo
In a small community such as Renovo, neighbors helping neighbors can make a tremendous difference. For more than a decade, the Good Neighbor Center of the Renovo Council of Churches has been providing an important source of food assistance to individuals and families throughout the community.
Established in 2014, the Good Neighbor Center operates as a community food pantry in Renovo. Its mission is simple but meaningful: help make sure that local residents have nutritious food to put on their tables when household resources are stretched. The pantry serves single adults, as well as families, and many of those receiving assistance are senior citizens.
Food distributions are held on the third Thursday of each month, providing a regular source of assistance. A typical distribution can serve as many as 70 families, while holiday months may see that number increase to approximately 85 families. Food available through the pantry includes meat, cereal, vegetables, fruit, eggs, milk, and other staples used to prepare meals at home.
The Good Neighbor Center receives food through the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, while donations, grants, and community food drives also help keep the pantry supplied.
Behind every distribution is a group of volunteers who make the operation possible, organizing and stocking the pantry, unloading deliveries, preparing food for distribution, and assisting residents when they arrive to receive their groceries.
Financial support is equally important. The Good Neighbor Center has received assistance from organizations, including the Clinton County Community Foundation and the Clinton County Solid Waste Authority, helping provide funding for food purchases and other needs. In 2025, the Community Foundation provided emergency funding to local food programs, as rising food costs and changes affecting assistance programs increased the demand for food assistance.
The center is an important reminder that community doesn ' t simply mean living in the same town. It means looking out for one another- and making sure that when a neighbor needs a helping hand, someone is there to offer it.
