Maximizing the Middle School Experience
Here at Jersey Shore Area Middle School, we encourage our students to get involved in as many opportunities as possible. One of the ways students can do that is to sign up for at least one of the 21 different clubs and activities we offer. Of those 21 clubs, 19 of them happen every other Wednesday at the end of our school day; Jazz Band and Ski Club happen after school hours.
Three of our most popular clubs are Outdoor Club, Military & Law Enforcement Support Club, and the Committed Christians Club( C3). These three clubs alone involve over 100 of our students. Outdoor Club does a variety of activities, ranging from hiking to rope courses to environmental cleanup efforts and recycling. Military & Law Enforcement Club hosts various patriotic events throughout the year that culminate with sending candy-filled Easter eggs to deployed members of the military and our local law enforcement officers. C3 provides a welcoming space for everyone who desires to remain strong in their faith and perform acts of service for others.
In the last few years, we’ ve added several new clubs by student request. Improv Club brings together students who have an interest in the performing arts, and specifically, improvisation. Trading Cards Club is a place where students can compare and share any variety of cards that they might collect, like traditional sports cards and Pokémon cards. Also new last year was Sports Management, where anyone interested in analytics, statistics, and / or fantasy leagues can get together to explore the world of sports through numbers, predictions, and competitions. The last new club added last year was for fans of the game Settlers of Catan, where players strategize, manage resources, and make deals with other players.
This year, two new clubs are being added by student request: American Sign Language Club and Math 24 Club. In American Sign Language, students will learn the basics of communicating through signs. In Math 24, students will practice and compete to earn the chance to attend the Math 24 Competition against other schools in our area in the Spring. Last year, our students brought home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in the annual competition!
Jersey Shore Area Middle School strives to produce students who are well-rounded community members who have been exposed to a wide variety of activities and opportunities. We encourage our students to be involved and make the most of their three years in our building.
