JSASD Recognized by PDE for Structured Literacy
Back in May of 2024 , our Superintendent , Dr . Brian Ulmer was notified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that the Jersey Shore Area School district and its three elementary schools , Avis , Jersey Shore , and Salladasburg have been recognized by the department as an example of a rural school district that is making structured literacy work .
There are multiple key components within our reading framework , which consist of implementing best practices , targeted professional development , building teacher capacity , significant growth over the past several years using structured literacy , and has created a laser focus inside our reading structure .
In addition , Dr . Ulmer has been selected to be part of the Keynote Panel of the Pennsylvania Literacy Leadership Summit , which will take place in October . Furthermore , to be recognized in this capacity by the Pennsylvania Department of Education , we have developed a strong team consisting of our reading teachers , classroom teachers , and our students . Job well done !

Jersey Shore High School Football Team Receives Guardian Helmet Caps
We are pleased to announce that Bear Country Radio ' s Go Fund Me campaign has raised enough money to provide Guardian Helmet Caps for the entire Jersey Shore High School football team . These caps provide more effective protection than helmets alone - concussions can be minimized by up to 50 %.
