Local Government Opportunities for Students
Central Mountain High School is excited to be offering opportunities for our students to participate in our local government . A focus on local government and the different ways to interact with it is essential in becoming a responsible citizen , which is one of the Keystone Central School District ’ s Keystones to Success , as a component of our Profile of a Learner .
Central Mountain High School is incredibly happy to be bringing back a Student Government . Under the advisement of teachers Doug Madenford and Lindsay Kalbach , the student government has already grown from 5 students with an interest in improving CMHS to a group of 15 students , ready to participate in the policy and practice of the school and its place in the community . The 11th and 12th grade students from the Student Government will be participating in a “ Senator for a Day ” program at Commonwealth University . This program is sponsored by PA Senator Dush and will allow students to learn about areas of interest in the local government .
In November , Mrs . Haley Eisenhower will be bringing a group of students to work the polls for our local elections . These are students that are part of our Civics and Government classes , Key Club , and Rotary / Interact Club . These students will have training on how to work the election polls , and will then spend the day working together as a team , demonstrating responsibility and leadership .
These are great ways for our students to learn about government , and also actively be a part of the election process .
