KEEP SPINNING
It is a dark hour for spinning mills across India as they are either downsizing their
operations or shutting down completely. Anurima Das examines the reasons
behind the same, and the way forward.
In July this year, Rajiv Garg, President, Northern
India Textile Mills Association (NITMA), released
a statement mentioning the baffling conditions
of the spinning industry in India, wherein the
demand for yarn is extremely meagre as
compared to the spinning prowess of the country.
As a result of this, many textile mills are looking
at downsizing their production in order to avoid
excessive yarn stock.
NITMA has also recently published an
advertisement in The Indian Express, a leading
English daily in the country, which says, “The
