I gone but not forgotten

With heavy hearts, the entire team at Ciao! extends condolences and prayers to the Mehra family on the sudden passing of Kamal Mehra. Mr. Mehra was the founder of East India Company Pub & Eatery, and shared our passion for food, business, Winnipeg, and tourism. His life had an impact on all of these things, and he will be deeply missed. He brought the rich flavours of the East to the Canadian prairies, transforming dining in this city and challenging the limits of regional cuisine. If not for Kamal Mehra, the opulent Indian buffet would not be the treasured part of our local culinary experience it is today.

I we got the beet

Baba ' s pantry staple has become the hottest root veg in town, with beets ' sweet, earthy flavour and vibrant hue punching up a diverse range of dishes. Red and gold beets at Era Bistro are tender and sweet, complemented by a tart-yetcreamy red wine vinaigrette. At Food Evolution, jewel tone shreds peek out of crunchy beet fritters set atop dandelion greens, dill, and crème fraîche. The Osborne Village Café excels at injecting life into diner staples. The beet burger adds a burst of fuchsia fun to the fast food fave. Creamy goat cheese and peppery arugula add flavourful depth to the beet salad at Peasant Cookery. The red velvet roll at Wasabi strays from sushi tradition with delicious results. The new-school roll is topped with beets, local honey, toasted walnuts, and a drizzle of soy balsamic reduction.
