OCR Cambridge Technicals in Media (year 1) handbook - 2013-14 Sept 2013 | Page 6

How can you be successful on the OCR Media course? One of the most important things you can do is to attend all classes. What will happen if you don’t? Well, you’ll get behind in your work, you won’t understand what’s happening in class and soon you’ll probably start to feel a little bit left out and then fed up. At this point you might start to wonder if you should be at college at all. What can you do? Being a college student can be a fine balancing act! Will the student in the picture make it across the beam? What do you think? Of course he did! He was determined and planned what he should do to get across the obstacle and what you can’t see in the picture are his team of supporters who helped him to get across and so helped his succeed. You can plan and organise yourself to achieve your goal whether it’s to get a job or to continue in education. You are not in it all by yourself! At South Leicestershire College we have lots of people who can help you achieve the success you desire. From Learning Coaches and mentors who can help you get down to coursework, to counsellors who understand the problems of being a young person today, to your Learning Tutor who is there to listen. But this student also had determination and didn’t give up. He managed to gain his balance. You, too, need to gain your balance. You will need to carefully consider your part-time employment hours and achieve a balance between college, work and your social and family life. ARE YOU READY FOR THE CHALLENGE? Success is a journey not a destination 6
