About our Homegrown Heroes Roger Moore He is the driving force behind the beautification and maintenance of Hackleton’s Cliff lookout point. With some donations, but mostly his own funds, he transformed it into a beautiful and serene location, where tourists and locals alike visit to relax and take in the beauty of the scenery. Andrew Harvey Coach Harvey co-founded BALLOUT, a youth basketball camp that helps participants hone their athletic abilities while developing into well-rounded individuals. The programme also provides an outlet for talented young players to travel and learn from professionals all over the world. Stephen Strickland Stephen Strickland is the heart of his St. Lucy community. Not only is he the pastor of the local church, he is also well- loved by the community’s children and helped advocate for a community play park, which he maintains to ensure that the children have a clean, safe space to play. Sharon Bellamy- Thompson The well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist wakes up every morning at 3am to prepare breakfast and lunch for close to 100 people. When asked how she sustains both herself and the resources needed for the meals, she stated, “God has given me this mantle and I have to do it for his people.” Peter Skeete Peter Skeete, considered the father of his Haynesville community, has helped to change the stigma usually associated with the area through his dedication to empowering the youth. One of his initiatives, the Haynesville Youth Group, allows neighbourhood youth to gain skills in the arts, such as drumming and dancing. He also organised an after school programme that offers free homework help to the community’s youth. Rondell Trim Our youngest Homegrown Hero awardee, Rondell Trim, is an active member of the United Youth Leaders of Barbados where he holds the position of 1st Vice President. At just 19, Rondell has already made changes in his community with the Backyardians project, where individuals learned how to start kitchen gardens using recycled materials. He also participated in the Feed the Less Fortunate programme, where he and his team supplied over 150 people in need with food and care packages. Volunteerism is part of who he is and we were happy to award him as our youngest Homegrown Hero.
