When I reached the priest ’ s cell , I saw him working on his book on his bed . He appeared to be shocked at my words towards him , and after a moment , looked up at me with concern . He asked if I was okay , but at that very moment , my anger took control of me , and I sprang at Faria at full speed . Upon reaching him , I slammed him to the ground and started beating him . He screamed in pain and asked why I was doing this to him , to which I responded , “ It is all your fault , Abbé Faria !” Eventually , after a couple of brutal minutes of this , I got tired and decided to carry Faria back to my cell . Once I got to my cell , I came up with an experiment . I would throw Faria out my cell window over the bars to see if it was possible to escape . The experiment was simple . If there were guards , Faria would be brought back to his room . If there were no guards but no way to escape , Faria would beg to be back inside . If there were no guards and a way to escape , Faria would be gone .
Time was one of the most important aspects of being a prisoner . You could do whatever you wanted to try to escape or make your life in prison better , but you had limited time to do so as the jailer came in twice a day . This meant , if you wanted to do something in that regard , you had to either do it and return everything to normal or do it and hide the evidence . In my situation , throwing Faria out the window could easily be done , but it would require Faria to act fast , which was something totally out of my control . I told Faria my plan , and knowing he couldn ’ t protest , he nodded his head . With that , I picked Faria up and threw him at the opening in the window where he hit the top of one of the bars and smashed into the ground . Faria screamed in pain , but I picked him up and tried again , receiving the same result . The third time , however , I succeeded , causing him to land on a spot of grass in what seemed like a field outside .
