Their Reward Memorial Poem Inspired by the Washington , D . C ., Trip

A looming giant A spectator of the century Forever still Silent Except for the soft footsteps of the soldiers Always watching Walking by On a soft , worn carpet The silent breathing of mourners Spectators Forever surrounds me Me A smooth marble tomb I am surrounded by the cold from the frigid ice and snow in winter Only to be melted by the coming Spring The relentless summer heat beats down upon me Until the rough , dry autumn leaves breeze by me Within me , the unknown remains Watched , guarded , day and night A solemn memorial Hope for the families Of those we lost
