Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002 by George W . Bush , two George Foster Peabody awards , and five Emmys ( Warner 78 ). He also founded Fred Rogers Productions in 1971 , an organization that continues to educate children by creating TV shows about the values Rogers taught when he was alive . Additionally , the Fred Rogers Institute was founded in his honor to support services for children and families (“ Fred Rogers Productions and Related Organizations .”). After his death , a documentary was made about his life and legacy called “ Won ’ t You Be My Neighbor .” Rogers changed the lives of all of his viewers and taught them to love each other . He was a living demonstration of the need to “ Love your neighbor as yourself ,” which is something people can take away from his life and learn to act on nowadays ( Matthew 22:39 ). This kind of compassion is necessary when we watch others in a time of stress , no matter their age . Through his desire for change in television , a new and different approach to children ’ s educational programming , and the morals he taught on his show , he exemplified the qualities of an agent for the good .
