Our internal temperature gradually increases , and when the center reaches a minimum of eighteen million degrees , the hydrogen nuclei in the center of our gas ball move so fast that when they collide , the atomic nuclei experiences fusion . For those of you who don ’ t know , fusion is a nuclear reaction that generates energy at a star ’ s core . This is the moment we come alive , the moment when we are born ! The result of this fusion is a protostar .
Scene 2 : Protostar
I remember when I was a protostar . A protostar is a very young star that has already formed but has yet to become the main-sequence star , like your sun . About 100,000 years after the first fragment of a protostar forms from the massive interstellar cloud , the center of the protostar reaches about one million degrees Celsius . Wow , that is so hot it ’ s like getting a third degree burn , but a million degrees worse for you humans ! At this stage , the gravitational forces are still stronger than the energy being released from the star ’ s core , making the star fuse together and not expand into the universe . A true star is only born approximately ten million years after becoming a protostar when nuclear fusion occurs at the protostar ’ s core . That might seem very long for you humans , but it feels like one hour for us . For the next thirty million years , gravitational forces cause the star to continually fuse and contract , eventually balancing the energy being released from the star ’ s core as a result of hydrostatic equilibrium . At this point , a protostar becomes a main-sequence star !
