DAY 8 • Antarctic Peninsula Region • South Shetland Islands Your ship nears the South Shetland Islands . If conditions allow , it may be your first chance to go ashore . Throughout your journey , your Captain and Expedition Team will assess weather conditions and wildlife-viewing opportunities , and coordinate with other tour operators , to take you out into the Antarctic environment as often as possible , with a goal of at least one Zodiac landing or Zodiac cruise per day .

DAY 9 • Antarctic Peninsula Region • South Shetland Islands Continue to explore this unspoiled wilderness with your Expedition Team . You might board Zodiacs bound for an island to hike along the shore . You may encounter colonies of penguins . Your Expedition Team will also watch for rare plant species that can sometimes be found in the warmer soil here .

DAY 10 • Antarctic Peninsula Region • South Shetland Islands Depending on conditions , you may happen upon “ penguin highways ” carved into the snow . Longtailed gentoos form this delicate infrastructure as they waddle between the sea and their cliffside rookeries . You may also notice impressive mountains and flocks of seabirds overhead . Onboard our ship , the Expedition Team may lead informative discussions on everything from marine life to scenic photography .

DAY 11 • Antarctic Peninsula Region • South Shetland Islands As your ship cruises , you might witness mountain peaks , seals , and penguins hunting for fish . You may have the opportunity to ride Zodiacs near icebergs — many of which are larger than most expedition ships — to marvel at their jagged angles and frozen coves . Your Expedition Team will offer even more insights into Antarctica ’ s ecology , wildlife , and history .

DAY 12 • Drake Passage Bid farewell to Antarctica as you begin your journey back to Ushuaia across the Drake Passage . If it is safe to do so , your Expedition Team may invite you to the lounge to share some final insights into the discoveries you ’ ve made .

DAY 13 • Drake Passage Savor your final day onboard as you complete your Drake Passage crossing , enjoying lectures from your Expedition Team and Trip Experience Leader as you cruise .
