DAY 4 • Kathmandu • Conversation about climbing Mt . Everest During our morning orientation walk , we ’ ll visit a tea shop and a food cart to sample traditional sweet samosas . Later , enjoy free time before meeting a local woman who has climbed Mount Everest , who will share stories about her experience .

DAY 5 • Optional Mount Everest flight • Meet the Kumari of Patan • Controversial Topic : The restrictive childhood of Nepal ’ s Kumaris
• Explore Patan At dawn , embark on an optional flight to Mount Everest . Or enjoy some free time before we begin our explorations of nearby Patan . We ’ ll visit a temple to receive the blessing of the Kumari , a child who is believed to be the manifestation of a living goddess . We ’ ll then meet one of Patan ’ s former Kumaris to learn about a Controversial Topic : the harmful effect that this tradition has on the development of children . We ’ ll also explore Durbar Square — a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Tonight , we ’ ll gather for a Welcome Dinner .

DAY 6 • Pokhara • Annapurna overland trek begins
VERY ACTIVE DAY ( 90-minute trek along uneven stone paths )
Fly to Pokhara this morning to begin our 4-day exploration of traditional life in the Modi River valley . We drive to meet our guides and porters , who will carry our luggage as we trek along the Modi River to our lodge . We walk for 90 minutes , stop for lunch along the route , then continue for two and a half hours .
