TANKS Returning to us are the fabulous Tanks markets from 9am to 2 pm on the last Sunday of every month from April to November. If you love ‘Hand made’ this this is a great way to purchase a piece of art for you home and you often get to meet the maker! You will be supporting the arts and local business as well as owning a unique thoughtfully created piece. While you are there you can take a gander through Tank 4 at Artists of the North, Cairns Art Society exhibition. Gathering its members and other artists from North Queensland, in one of the largest local group exhibitions in the Cairns cultural calendar, Cairns Art Society presents their annual, Artists of the North exhibition. This year’s theme is ‘Free as a breeze’. MAKIN WHOOPEE Talking of Markets, Whoopee is venturing out from their Shields Street store and into the suburbs with the return of their Makers Markets at Edge Hill State School on Pease street, Cairns. now in its second year and offers you an opportunity to come together with people of your own age to learn and share artistic skills and best of all to brainstorm ideas. This event will showcase the talents and products of approximately 30 small businesses and artisans who have been hand picked by the Makin’ Whoopee Team. The Whoopsters will make sure that there's something for every- one; jewellery, candles, flowers, artworks and more! All handmade, Australian made and in most cases made right in here in Cairns! Held right before Mothers day, PERFECT! A special feature of this year’s program is a project that combines art and business where you will work together to design, develop and make a product for sale. This will involve making a prototype, cost it to go to market, and then present your concept to a panel for feedback before completing it to sell to Christmas shoppers. CAIRNS ART GALLERY The Young Creatives Club If you are between 13 and 17 years old you can become a member of the Gallery Young Creatives Club that is held on alternative Makin’ Saturdays from 3pm to 5pm. It is During the year Young Creatives will also design and host a drop-in children’s workshop where you will learn about teaching, entertaining and working with younger children. These skills will assist you if you decide to study and make a career in art. 15
