East meets West IN MOSSMAN One of the highlights of Far North Queensland’s musical calendar is moving to Mossman this year, bringing a taste of the Orient to the region. “Showcase in Paradise” is now in its second year, providing a two day music platform for musicians, artists and local businesses from across the region to perform, showcase and network together. Bringing together all people who are interested in music or who love to listen to the sweet sound of the talented young musicians around the region. Over the course of two days in November, musicians from all regions are coming into Mossman for a Music Camp and End of Year Recital. Everyone from the Far North area is welcome to come along to these special two days, as performers, audience or sponsors. On Saturday 17 November, students and family will camp at Mossman Leisure Park for the day and be able to showcase their talents busking at the Mossman Markets. Sponsors of ‘Showcase in Paradise’ are encouraged to set up stalls next to our busking station. Organiser, international musician and Director of the Cultural Centre Pty Ltd, Suna Flynn, said the highlight of this year’s program on November 18 will be “Turpan Tango” performed using the rarely seen Pipa (Chinese Lute) and the new Kawai grand piano at the Mossman shire Hall. “We feel privileged to be showcasing Chinese cultural heritage through this unique instrument.” Ms Flynn said. Hosting the event this year is Lynda Irvine, founder and CEO of Music 4 All and Lynda’s Music Studio of Mossman. As well as bringing together the Douglas Shire community to fund the purchase of the new piano, Lynda is an ARIA “Music Teacher of the Year” nominee and author of the “Brag Tag This” music book series. This event is a great opportunity for all music lovers young and old to come together and enjoy the many facets of local music in the picturesque town of Mossman. This year 10% of the profits from this event will go to two charities; Golden Octopus Foundation and Meals on Wheels Mossman.
