Welcome to Terror Australis A hot new live art cabaret that slices open the sinister side of Australia. WINNER – John Chataway Innovation Award, Adelaide Fringe 2016. PHOTOGRAPHY BY MORGAN ROBERTS Coming to CoCA this September for two performances during Cairns Festival, this adults’ only cabaret transports audiences to the Australian Outback, into a world of Ozploitation - a category of low-budget horror, comedy and action films made in Australia after the introduction of the ‘R’ rating in the 1970s . Premiering earlier this year at the 2016 Adelaide Fringe Festival, it has already been dubbed an outright hit. Essentially a deranged outback nightmare, performed by psychosiren Leah Shelton (Polytoxic), Terror Australis is a frothing hot mess of black comedy, anti-burlesque and hills-hoist pole dance. “If you like your goon bags swingin’ from a clothes line and your contemporary cabaret edgier than a serial killer’s machete, then Leah Shelton’s your gal.” wrote Laura Hughes, of The Maggie Journal. “Leah Shelton performed her physical comedy spectacularly, never uttering a word while drawing the audience into the dirty, grungy underbelly of Australian pop culture.” (Hitlist BEST CABARET - Adelaide Advertiser) Shelton’s premiere solo work is a surreal exploration of the paranoia that lies deep within the Australian colonial psyche. True tales of terror terror australis collide with pop-culture, jewel-encrusted gore, lip-sync, sweat and beer. Radio Adelaide’s Phoebe Montgomery exclaimed “Leah Shelton delivers an equally erotic and manic performance of the most outrageously Australian burlesque show ever to grace the Adelaide Fringe” Not for the faint of heart or easily offended, Terror Australis is bizarrely entertaining, annihilating boundaries. “Leah Shelton is sensational – sensual, erotic and quite mad” (Tsunami Magazine) Welcome to Terror Australis … a sunburnt country where cars rule, hitchhiking kills and dingoes eat babies. Down Under, no one can hear you scream and things are never quite as they seem. Tickets $29 for Adults, $24 for Concession.
