Massive events like this can’t happen
without massive contributions from
local volunteers. Amongst them
were NWTC Emergency Medical
Technician students, providing
first aid to staff and the general
public under the supervision of
their instructor Jim Boland.
“We know that when we have EMS
students at the event, there is a sigh
of relief from the staff of the event,
as they know we can handle a majority
of the minor medical emergencies
and have the ability to call in the
local EMS Agencies for transport to
the local hospitals.” said Boland.
“We even bring an AED with us
in the event that a person needs
CPR, and seconds count if that
patient collapses and goes into
cardiac arrest.” He continued.
The students also serve as advocates
and bring public awareness to
what Emergency Medical Services
are, and what these students and
professionals do in our communities.
Leaders of the event believe it’s a
truly special day. According to parent
educator Kimberly Pampel, “It’s great
to see all kinds of other community
members coming out to not only
volunteer but support such a great
cause and have fun with the activities
and see lots of smiling faces.”
