Being able to say, if I
ever go there with kids or
anything, I helped work
on that, so that’s always
something... pride in work.

Schlag, making sure the project keeps
students thinking and learning all year.
“I’ve primarily been on this one,
so it’s kind of my pride and joy,”
says carpentry student Zachary
Desmet, referencing the large
structure. “Being able to say, if I
ever go there with kids or anything,
I helped work on that, so that’s
always something... pride in work,”.
The students delivered the shelter
and concession stands to the NEW
Zoo in early May of 2019. They also
added a few more things onto the
big birdhouse and wrapped up the
remaining construction on site.
“It’s just exciting to do something
like this with students over there,”
says Anderson. “And knowing
how it’s helping the zoo out
and helping them out, it’s just...
you feel good about that.”
