Zachary Desmet Carpentry student Schlag, making sure the project keeps students thinking and learning all year. “I’ve primarily been on this one, so it’s kind of my pride and joy,” says carpentry student Zachary Desmet, referencing the large structure. “Being able to say, if I ever go there with kids or anything, I helped work on that, so that’s always something... pride in work,”. The students delivered the shelter and concession stands to the NEW Zoo in early May of 2019. They also added a few more things onto the big birdhouse and wrapped up the remaining construction on site. “It’s just exciting to do something like this with students over there,” says Anderson. “And knowing how it’s helping the zoo out and helping them out, it’s just... you feel good about that.” 18
