AWARENESS
Pink Pumpkin 10th Anniversary Celebration
Design and Graphic Technology students
develop marketing campaigns for a cause.
October is Breast Cancer
Awareness Month, one of many
opportunities for organizations
like the Breast Cancer Family
Foundation (BCFF) to increase
awareness of the disease while
raising funds for research,
prevention, diagnosis, treatment
and a cure.
One of the largest annual
BCFF events, the Pink Pumpkin
Run/Walk, celebrated its 10th
anniversary in 2017 at NWTC.
Without events like Pink Pumpkin,
achieving the BCFF mission of
inspiring people in our community
to lead cancer-free healthy
lifestyles wouldn’t be possible.

The funds raised from entry
fees, raffle tickets and supportive
business sponsors support their
cancer awareness and prevention
education programs for high
school students and adults in
the community.
The run/walk event also brings
together members of the
community to recognize cancer
survivors and those lost to cancer.
Each year, NWTC students serve
in a variety of ways to ensure the
walk is a success. Horticulture
students grow and paint pumpkins
pink for purchase, while Physical
Therapy Assistant students
serve along the run/walk route
remaining available for assistance.
In addition, for over a decade
NWTC Design & Graphic
Technology students have
contributed to the event by
designing the official event logo
each year. The logo is used on all
event T-shirts, signage, marketing,
and social media. Students also
design and create the event
poster and rack cards that are
used for marketing throughout
the community.
