$178,000 dollars in EITC credits,
which according to the IRS remains
unclaimed on average by 1 in 5
eligible citizens.
Furthermore, at a minimum average
cost of $176 to have taxes prepared
and filed, the students saved tax
filers over $83,000 in tax preparation
and filing fees, helping asset-limited
families save money that can be
used to help secure health insurance,
pay down debts, or put food on the
table.

said that past experiences helped
her to empathize with clients.
“Some of the greatest benefits of
working through VITA is being able
to help those who are less fortunate.
I know how it is to struggle with
money and how expensive it can
be to get taxes done if you aren’t
familiar with it. Being able to help
individuals and families file their
taxes for free, correctly, while trying
to get them the lowest liability and
greatest return, helps reduce their
stress level.”
