One gray fall morning , I decided to check an intriguing place off my must-see list and headed to Old Car City in White , Georgia . It was featured in a “ Best of Northwest Georgia ” roundup in a previous issue of NW Georgia Living and tickled my brain as a possible source of inspiration for my drawings , so I headed out to take some photos . It did not disappoint .
Described as “ the world ’ s largest known classic car junkyard ,” it contains more than 4,000 old cars , trucks , buses , and other vehicles spread out across a 34-acre plot of forest . It ’ s a unique combination of auto graveyard , museum , and art installation .
If you love rust , patina , folk art , and quiet outdoor walks meandering through a maze of funky surprises , put on some comfy shoes , grab your cellphone or camera , and go check it out . Vintage auto lovers will have a field day finding old models and reminiscing about bygone vehicles .
There are six miles of pine strawcovered paths with rows and rows of cars nestled in the trees that have grown up , around , and through them , plus old barns , garages , and piles of retro finds with and without wheels .
This isn ’ t a trip to Disney World with crisp , decipherable maps , but more of a haphazard wander through the woods . It ’ s impossible to convey the scope of the place with just a few photos , but shown here are some of my favorite pics from my visit . I didn ’ t even get to see everything there due to the impending rain , but that just means I have a good reason to return .
