Corn silage tips
Corn silage or corn used in a grazing system is a versatile feed that will help
carry your herd through winter.

• Equipment: A corn planter will do the best job of precise seed placement.
• Hybrid selection: Corn is a warm season crop that prefers 10 degrees
Celsius to germinate. Select Proven Seed or DEKALB ® hybrids that fit the
CHU (Corn Heat Units) in your area. And keep in mind the accumulation in
each area can vary below normal in any given year.
• Seeding: Seed into warm soil, between 1.5 and 2.5 inches deep.
• Weed removal: Take the time to eliminate weed competition early on.
