Advanced Practice Providers
Advanced practice providers ( APPs ) at Children ’ s Hospital Colorado include advanced practice nurses ( APRNs ), physician assistants ( PAs ) and anesthesiologist assistants ( AAs ). APPs are employed in a mixed model by the hospital , the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the College of Nursing as faculty on medical staff . APPs are integrated into interdisciplinary care teams across the organization and function in diverse roles in the inpatient and ambulatory settings in almost every specialty practice at Anschutz Medical Campus , Colorado Springs Hospital , North and South Campus Hospitals , System of Care facilities , partnering community hospitals , and outreach clinics across the state . There are currently over 450 APPs on Children ’ s Colorado ’ s medical staff contributing to the clinical , research , teaching and advocacy missions of the organization .
The Children ’ s Colorado Neonatal Advanced Practice Program is a team of approximately 100 neonatal nurse practitioners ( NNPs ) as well as acute care pediatric nurse practitioners ( AC-PNPs ) who help care for this complex patient population . The team currently provides neonatal care to nine clinical practice sites across Colorado providing level II , III and IV NICU coverage , including high-risk delivery attendance . The NNPs are employed through Children ’ s Colorado and staff the level IV NICU at Anschutz Medical Campus and are contracted to community NICUs :

The Children ’ s Colorado NNP Program provides a competitive clinical rotation practice site and provides employment opportunities for these graduates . In 2019 , the NNP New Graduate Fellowship Program became the first ANCC accredited NNP Fellowship Program in the country .
Children ’ s Hospital Colorado also has a strong partnership with the University of Colorado for APP education . The University of Colorado School of Medicine Child Health Associate PA program is the only pediatric-focused program nationally , with integrated clinical education opportunities at Children ’ s Colorado . The College of Nursing also has numerous graduate nursing programs with established clinical rotations at Children ’ s Colorado , including family , psych / mental health , acute and primary care pediatric nurse practitioner programs .
