Kelly Grenham Named
2019 ‘School Nurse of the Year’
Advocacy is described as the deliberate process of
influencing those who make decisions. Kelly Grenham,
MPH, BSN, RN NCSN, in addition to her role as a school
nurse consultant for Children’s Hospital Colorado’s school
health team, advocates for school nurses and children
statewide in many capacities, which earned her the title of
2019 School Nurse of the Year by the Colorado Association
of School Nurses.
Her accomplishments in 2019 include serving as the
legislative chair for the Colorado Association of School
Nurses (CASN) and working with Children’s Colorado’s
Governmental Affairs and CASN Lobbyist to testify and meet
with stakeholders on immunizations in schools, CIIS and
medical marijuana administered in schools. As an advocate
for school nurses during the legislative session, she was
responsible for responding to any bills with testimony.
She also moderated the CASN Lobbyists presentation during
the fall 2019 school nurse conference, and worked with the
Colorado Nurses Association and the Colorado Coalition on
many initiatives including:
• Drafting of a bill that requests more funding for
school nurses
• Supporting senator Rhonda Fields’ bill to expand
funding and DORA therapists to the School Health
Professional Grant
• Educating Colorado Coalition on delegation and
school health services through being the delegation
subcommittee chair
• Working to revise and sunset the current Nurse
Practice Act
