NETWORK EXPANSION
“Hunger is unacceptable in America. As a Food Bank, we are
dedicating ourselves to making our communities hunger-free.”
-Simon Powell, Interim CEO and President
FY16 was a big year for the Food Bank in terms of expansion. In 2015,
the Food Bank announced a 10-year plan to provide access to 92
million meals annually by 2025.
As part of the expansion, NTFB Partner Agency Sharing Life
Community Outreach in Mesquite was also converted into a member
of NTFB’s Feeding Network as a Food Bank Hub. This was done to
help NTFB distribute more fresh food to area organizations near
Sharing Life. They also recieved an additional cooler and freezer to
store more food. All of these changes will help aid us in our efforts
to reach more food insecure households. Sharing Life has been a
dedicated partner with the Food Bank for more than 15 years, so we
are very excited to be a part of their growth.
In addition, through the Hunger Center, NTFB has participated
in several collaborations to better understand our clients’ needs
including:
• Information Exchange Portal (IEP), a unique data sharing
collaboration among human service providers and health systems.
• DASH (Data Across Sectors for Health), which is testing how NTFB
pantries and Parkland Hospital can work together to improve health
outcomes for low-income people with diabetes and hypertension.
1 out of every 6 people in North
Texas are food insecure.
