NUTRITION SERVICES
NTFB has provided free culinary and nutrition education to
low-income populations since 1996.
As we improve access to nutritious foods, we are empowering those
we serve with information about how to prepare these items and
create affordable, healthful meals.
In 2016, we continued to provide free culinary and nutrition education
to low-income families across North Texas, emphasizing the basics
of nutrition, cooking, food management, food budgeting and food
safety through:
• 23 six-week Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters courses
to promote healthful and affordable food choices to over 300
participants
• Providing 28 Cooking Matters at the Store grocery tours to reach
203 participants with interactive education about healthful shopping
on a budget
• Conducting 97 additional nutrition workshops for more than 2,260
low-income participants with quick ways to eat healthfully on a
budget
• Partnering with three local health clinics to provide nutrition
education and healthful food access to patients through our Food 4
Health Program
In 2016, NTFB distributed 23 million
pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables.

NTFB also partnered with 25 community gardens to grow and
connect fresh produce to those in need. Partner gardens donate a
portion of their yield to a local partner agency, while NTFB provides
volunteer assistance for planting, harvesting and weeding the garden.
More than 41,000 pounds of garden-fresh produce were donated
through our partner gardens last year.
NTFB’s Nutrition Service Programs help power NTFB’s other
programing by teaching clients how to live a healthy lifestyle.
