CHILD PROGRAMS
Through our partnership with Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere
and community supporters, Food 4 Kids expanded to serve
some 1,400 children in need in PISD.
NTFB’s child programs team was hard at work during FY16. Thanks
to the generous support from the Crystal Charity Ball Committee,
NTFB’s Food 4 Kids program eliminated its wait list and distributed
backpacks full of kid-friendly items to more than 12,000 chronically
hungry students in more than 380 schools across our service area
each Friday during the school year.
The School Pantry program, operating at 4 Dallas Independent School
District schools, distributed shelf-stable pantry items as well as fresh
produce to families monthly, providing them a total of 479,253 meals.
Brighter Bites, a non-profit that strives to create communities of
health through fresh food, continued its partnership with NTFB.
During the 2016 fiscal year, the group distributed more than 1.3 million
pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to children and families across
North Texas.
During the summer months, the Kids Cafe program distributed hot
supper meals to more than 16,000 students each afternoon and
2,100 lunches and snacks daily. These meals were coupled with
weekly distributions of fresh produce and Food 4 Kids backpacks to
participating children. In addition to those meals, NTFB also launched
a summer breakfast program, where thanks to grant funding, more
than 1,100 participating children received a balanced breakfast each
morning.

NTFB also participated in a pilot program with Women Infants and
Children (WIC) and the Texas Department of Agriculture to serve as
a sponsor of the Summer Food Service Program, providing lunch to
7 sites, serving more than 350 meals daily to WIC clients during the
summer.
