Youth Programs Gator Track & Field Gator Track & Field trains athletes for competitive meets. Athletes will learn the proper skills needed to compete in various running and field events. During the first week of program, athletes will go through a Skills Assessment Test to determine participation in the program for the remainder of the season, as well as to gain eligibility for Special Olympics Illinois competitions. Athletes are expected to compete in Special Recreation Association (SRA) and Special Olympic events and must register for competitions by completing registration forms which will be distributed at program. Athletes must have a valid Special Olympics Application for Participation on file. Save the dates! The NISRA Spring Track Meet will be held in April (date TBD), the Special Olympics North Spring Games are Saturday, May 4 - Sunday, May 5, and for those who qualify, the Special Olympics Illinois State Summer Games are Friday, June 7 - Sunday, June 9. Please note: Practices will be held at Northfield Community Center the first three weeks of program (February 26, March 5 and March 12). Goals: Increase physical conditioning. Enhance strength and endurance through running and field sports. Develop a sense of teamwork. During this swim program, we will introduce basic swim techniques including stroke development, kicking and water safety. This program is intended for participants who are still being oriented to the water and swimming techniques. Participants must NOT be able to swim one lap of the pool. Please bring a labeled swimsuit and towel. Goals: Feel comfortable in the water. Develop a basic understanding of swimming techniques. Increase ability to follow demonstrated one and two step directions. Increase water safety awareness.
