Gator Softball
Take me out to the ball game! Join the Gators this spring for competitive softball. During the first week of program,
athletes will go through a Skills Assessment Test to determine participation in the program for the remainder of the
season, as well as to gain eligibility for Special Olympics Illinois competitions. Athletes will spend the remainder of
the season practicing their skills and competing in weekly games that are hosted both at home and away. Game locations and transportation times will
vary. A schedule and tournament information will be distributed at the beginning of the season. All athletes are expected to compete in Special Recreation
Association (SRA) and Special Olympics tournaments and must register for competitions by completing registration forms which will be distributed at
program. Practices and games take place outdoors and are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather. Athletes must bring their own
mitt to every practice and game. Athletes must have a current Special Olympics Medical Application for Participation on file.
Save the dates! The ITRS Softball Tournament is Sunday, July 14. The Special Olympics District Softball Tournament is Saturday, August 3, and
for those who qualify, the Special Olympics State Outdoor Sports Fest is Saturday, September 7 - Sunday, September 8.
Goals: Enhance hand-eye coordination and upper extremity gross motor skills through batting, catching and throwing. Foster social interaction with
teammates through practices and games.
