Gator Basketball Gator Basketball athletes will learn the rules of basketball, develop skills, practice, play weekly games against local teams and play in competitions. Gator athletics emphasize sportsmanship, fundamentals and rules of the game. Participants are expected to compete in Special Olympics (SO) and Special Recreation Association (SRA) events. The first few weeks will consist of practicing and conditioning. Athletes must attend practices as well as take a Skills Assessment Test to gain eligibility for SO competitions. Athletes must have a current Special Olympics Medical Application for Participation on file. Game locations and transportation times will vary. A schedule and tournament information will be distributed at the beginning of the season. No program December 24 and December 31. Goals: Enhance basketball skills through practice and competition. Improve physical condition and teamwork. Music Speaks Get ready to rock to the beat of your own drum! This is the program we have all been waiting for! Music Speaks is led by a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). It might sound just like fun and games, but music and rhythm interventions also address physical, cognitive, communication, social and emotional aspects. Various instruments will be used during program. No musical skill or background is needed to be successful in a music therapy session. A snack will be given at the start of program. Music therapy will be provided from 4:30 - 5:30 pm. No program October 9. Goals: Develop an understanding and appreciation of music. Encourage positive self-expression. Increase exposure to a variety of musical rhythms and instruments.
