Meet Cassie Fox, NSSRA Piano Intructor
Tell us a little about yourself -- what is your background in music?
I began playing piano at age seven and always loved to sing. I began singing in a youth choir at church at
age nine, then in school choirs throughout high school and college, including show choir and musicals in
high school/community theater. Music has always been a big part of my life.
What is one of your favorite memories from teaching over the years?
Watching students play and practice a song that they really like and that they are motivated to play. I love
watching their emotional affect and facial expressions when they accomplish it and have a true sense of
satisfaction!
NSSRA's two piano instructors, Having taught piano with NSSRA since 2011, why do you continue to teach year after year?
Rosie Dembre and Cassie Fox (l-r). Because of the relationship that the students and I build together through music. Music is a wonderful tool
for this as it allows for communication and connection between people, even if a student is non-verbal.
What have you learned or what has most impacted you from working with students with disabilities?
I have learned that it is important to closely observe students and how exactly they learn. No two people learn the same way, whether they have
a disability or not. I continue to try and observe how students learn best and then adapt lessons so that students can utilize their own strengths to
reach their full potential.
Do you have any advice for a first-time piano student, or even someone that would like to sign up but is nervous?
I would say that if you like music and have any interest in playing, please come join us! The piano teachers at NSSRA want to teach songs that YOU
want to play and will adapt lessons to help you accomplish this. We'll have fun!
