Youth Programs Buddy Kickball Buddies: We Need You! Goals: Improve understanding and basic skills of kickball. Increase social interaction. Improve teamwork. Buddies will meet on Tuesday, September 13, the week before program, for orientation. Buddies will learn about participants and receive program details. Get ready to join the team as we head to the gym for a game of kickball! We will pair up with our buddies as we challenge our friends to an exciting game. Each week, we will warm up with our team, practice and play a game. Note: Buddy Kickball is not a competitive program. Participants should come dressed in athletic clothing and gym shoes. As a buddy, you will be paired with an athlete with special needs as he or she learns to play kickball. Help us create a program where everyone can have fun, and experience kickball in an exciting and successful atmosphere. While there is no fee for buddies, you must register to be a buddy. Gator athletics emphasize sportsmanship, fundamentals, and rules of the game. Participants will compete in Special Olympics and Special Recreation Association events. The first few weeks will consist of practicing and conditioning. Note: All athletes must attend these practices as well as take a Skills Assessment Test to gain eligibility for Special Olympics Illinois competitions. All athletes must have a current Special Olympics Illinois Application for Participation on file. Game locations and transportation times will vary. A schedule and tournament information will be distributed at the beginning of the season. No program December 20 and December 27. Goals: Enhance basketball skills through practice and competition. Improve physical condition and teamwork. This program is intended for children who are still being oriented to the water and swimming techniques. Participants must NOT be able to swim one lap of the pool. Participants may register for only one of the two groups listed below. Please bring a labeled swimsuit and towel. No program October 12. Goals: Feel comfortable in the water. Develop a basic understanding of swimming techniques. Increase ability to follow demonstrated one and two step directions. Increase water safety awareness.
