NSRCC collaborated with the Singapore Bowling Federation as a venue for the Own Time “ Virtual ” Tournament ( OTVT ). The tournament allows bowlers to bowl at their own time and comply with Safe Management Measures . There were 8 categories of competition : Men Open , Women Open , Youth Under 21 Boys , Youth Under 21 Girls , Under 16 Boys , Under 16 Girls , Under 12 Boys and Under 12 Girls .
10 NSRCC bowlers took part in the OTVT , including two under 12-year-old boys Jarred Chua and Xandre Teo who took part in their first ever tournament ! Two female bowlers , Hazel Tan and Natalie Ang did well by bringing home the Under 16 Girls Champion and Runner- Up trophies respectively .
In this article , our youth bowlers share their thoughts about adapting to the new format for the bowling tournament that has been brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic .
Hazel Tan - “ Besides wearing a mask during training and the OTVT , I also make sure I sanitise my equipment and wash my hands after bowling . I keep to my own lane and maintain safe distancing among my friends . During competition , I no longer hi-5 with my friends . Instead , we tap our feet .”
Ashley Zukifly Minyi – “ I played the tournament on separate lanes and wore masks at all times . During training , I avoid contact with other bowlers and coaches . I also use my own equipment and don ’ t share bowling-related items with others .”
Natalie Ang - “ During this pandemic period , I ’ m thankful to be able to represent NSRCC to compete in the OTVT . By complying with the rules and regulations stipulated by the bowling centres , we can have a peace of mind to compete in a safe environment .”
