When Mr Christopher Gan first heard about NSRCC , he was excited because “ it is a club particularly for reservists , in recognition of their contribution to national service ”.
Now almost 30 years later , the retired sales consultant continues to be an NSRCC member . “ It is the set up with two different locations , two 18-hole golf courses and other facilities . Yet , the registration fees and monthly subscription charges are so reasonable . Plus , I get to see many of my buddies at the golf courses .”
Besides playing golf , Mr Gan also enjoys the Club ’ s resort facilities . “ I have always enjoyed the facilities at Changi the most , especially the bungalows which I book occasionally . Once every quarter , I will invite my family and friends to stay there over the weekend .”
DEREK FOO
Mr Derek Foo signed up for the NSRCC membership in 1994 because “ it was reasonably priced , good value-for-money for a club with full facilities ”.
Today , the retiree is still an NSRCC member for the same reason . “ It still offers good value , and more so as more and more golf courses are being threatened in land-scarce Singapore . NSRCC is now one of the few clubs with two 18-hole courses that are very well-maintained despite the high traffic ,” he said .
Mr Foo added that NSRCC also has an added advantage . “ It is still exclusive to citizens who have served their country . Hence , it is a place to make new friends and meet old friends , especially those who have served NS together .”
While he has spent many memorable moments at NSRCC ’ s golf courses , Kranji ’ s Hole # 5 is a standout for him . Mr Foo explained , “ It is a short hole , reachable with a wedge yet so very difficult ! It reveals the inconsistency of one ’ s swing and that is what makes it very interesting . It is always fun to watch each other ’ s errant shots .”
