THE EDITOR SPEAKS

Dear Members

They joined when NSRCC first opened its doors way back in 1994 and today , 27 years later , they are still enjoying its facilities , many with their families including children and even grandchildren . They are the more than 200 pioneer members who have seen and experienced the growth of the Club from day one - from just one location at Changi to the addition of another at Kranji and the opening of the Sea Sports Centre and other social and sports amenities that followed soon after .
We spoke to five of these pioneer members to understand what enticed them to join NSRCC in the first place and also what has kept them at the Club all these years . Their replies are diverse but with one common thread : the good value and attractive facilities offered by the Club and most importantly , the desire to keep in touch with old friends from their National Service days and to make new ones along the way .
Many of our pioneer members also happen to be avid golfers who have been playing for decades and are all too familiar with the mantra : “ practise good course management ”. But for the benefit of their fellow golfers who may not be as experienced , we offer some tips on good course management from tee to pin and other things in between ! These tips come from the steady hands of Vice-Captain Brian Tan and Golf Professional Paul Finch .
While many of us are still recovering from the heavy feasting during the recent Chinese New Year celebrations , our resident gourmet Mike Neo has other ideas . He has tasted some of the delicacies at Fu Lin Men and is excited about you giving these a try on your next visit to the restaurant at NSRCC Changi . Read his review to find out why !
Finally , a new and occasional column called I-Spy makes its debut in this issue . It ’ s a collection of anecdotes , rendered in a light-hearted way , that highlight infringement of rules and etiquette on the fairways and around the Club . It will hopefully help to raise awareness of such infringements which are usually unintentional and unconsciously made .
Enjoy your visits to the Club and do say hello to our pioneer members if you happen to meet them .
Regards , Chua Swee Kiat
