National Society for Collegiate Scholars January Newsletter | University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Chapter Insights from the CEO & Founder: Steve Loflin The team at the NSCS National Office is relatively small, but incredibly ambitious! We came back from the holidays ready to dive into another year of creating fulfilling experiences for all of our members. While this could be daunting, we’ve discovered that even as a small team we can meet and exceed our goals when everyone pitches in. We inspire each other every day, and that’s one thing I love about the NSCS community! I have great memories of the awesome Honors Society Conference you co-hosted last year (and not just because the freezing temperatures in DC currently have me dreaming of sunny islands!). That event was all about collaborating to achieve individual and collective success. I loved getting to talk with so many of you about realizing your crazy ideas. As leaders, it’s crucial that we never stop looking for ways to work together to turn our ideas into reality. My own crazy idea (starting NSCS) has succeeded precisely because I didn’t keep it to myself, but rather shared it with other people and invited their feedback – their encouragement, their critique, their own related ideas. That experience gave everyone a chance to use their talents and insights to create something that didn’t exist before. A win for everyone! Because I’m such a fan of collaborative relationships, I think it’s super exciting that you’re launching this chapter newsletter! This will be a great forum for connecting with each other, celebrating each other’s achievements, and highlighting the amazing things you can accomplish when you engage with the life of your chapter. As NSCS members, you have the awesome opportunity to learn, lead, and serve in unique ways. As you work together more and more in those endeavors, you’re sure to create an inspiring experience for others on your campus, in your community, and in our world. I wish you all the best this semester, and I hope to see you at ScholarCon in Orlando this July!
