History of
NSCS
by Chelsey Borge
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars was founded
in 1994 at George Washington University in Washington D.C by Steve Loflin. The
National Society of Collegiate
Scholars is a non-profit organization and a member of the
Association of College Honor
Societies. It is now a highly
recognized organization at
approximately 300 campuses
in the United States, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico with
over one million members.
Students are invited to join
their first or second year
if they have a GPA of 3.4
or above, and astonishing, less than ten percent
of students at universities
with chapters are invited.
Loflin founded the National Society of Collegiate Scholars to recognize
students who performed
well academically during their first year in college and to offer members
an opportunity to take a
leadership or active ship
role in NSCS which is devoted to scholarship, leadership, and service. The
National Society of Collegiate Scholars chapter at
the University of Hawaii
at Manoa was founded in
2001 and currently has
about 400 members!
