What it can be
This year will mark the fifth anniversary that TOCA has been housed in the old synagogue , and Willhoit said the organization has made vast improvements to the building while keeping the history of it .
" I think we ' re very pleased . We ' ve continued at a fairly quick clip in terms of painting here , and then we did the electrical . It seems like we ' re not waiting long periods of time in between ," he said . " It ' s been moving fast ."
In addition to new paint in areas , floors have been restored and carpet removed . He said some kitchen upgrades are in the offing as well .
" I think in five years , things have really been adapted and changed , and continue to do so ," Willhoit said . " I think that ' s sort of a reflection of how pleased we are with it ."
But in the next five years or even a decade ? Willhoit said those discussions have already taken place .
" You get in a space and it ' s just like a house , and then it ' s , ' I could use some more space ,'" he said . " You know , if there ' s an opportunity to increase our footprint , things programmingwise , perhaps with music and things , and if we ' re able to reach our regional kids on a more regular basis , I think that might be something .
" Maybe more space that would accommodate a weekend program , an after-school program , within this neighborhood ... I think that ' s something we would look at ," Willhoit said . " Space costs money , but I think there ' s always options ."
