• Rep. Lisa Borowski and Sen. Michele Brooks are the prime sponsors. The House passed HB 1460 in June, but it has not yet been considered in the Senate.
HB 1284: Insurance coverage for frenectomies
• Requires insurers contracted with the Commonwealth to provide care to children enrolled in the Children’ s Health Improvement Program to cover frenectomies to correct lip-ties and tongue-ties.
• Rep. Carol Hill-Evans introduced this legislation, which was assigned to the House Insurance Committee.
HB 1376: School-Based Health Centers
• Provides uniform standards for school-based centers operating in the Commonwealth( as of 2022, 33 centers provided health services to more than 17,000 students).
• School-based centers could potentially offer dental services to students.
• HB 1376, introduced by Rep. Tarik Khan, was assigned to the House Health Committee.
HB 583 and SB 860: Restoration of dental Medicaid coverage for adults
• Requires the Commonwealth to restore the dental benefits provided to adults prior to cuts that were made in 2011 and eliminated the benefits limit exception process.
• The services covered prior to 2011, and those currently covered in the Medicaid program, are the minimum required. The Commonwealth could choose to cover additional services.
• Rep. Gina Curry reintroduced this bill and it passed the House of Representatives in June with a vote of 154-49. HB 583 is now in the Senate for consideration. Sen. Jay Costa reintroduced a companion bill in the Senate that has not yet been considered, and it is unclear which of the two bills will continue moving through the legislative process.
