Career & Technical Education : Meeting the Needs of the Workforce
Jersey Shore Area Senior High School is proud to offer twelve career and technical education ( CTE ) programs for students in Grades 11-12 . Approximately 150 students participate in CTE programs . Four new CTE programs in Health & Medical Assisting , Business Entrepreneurship , Precision Machining , and Diversified Occupations are focused on preparing technically trained and highly skilled graduates to enter the local and regional workforce or to continue studies beyond high school .
The Health & Medical Assisting CTE program prepares students for careers in health occupations , such as nursing and medical assistants , licensed practical nurses , and registered nurses . Student interest surveys showed that nearly 20 % of Jersey Shore students would consider a career in health occupations and workforce data show more than 1,200 annual openings within central PA . Thanks to donations from the Jersey Shore Education Foundation and Geisinger Hospital , Jersey Shore students now have access to a CTE healthcare education without having to leave the high school .
All Jersey Shore students take a business course in personal finance . This year , they can follow a CTE program of study in entrepreneurship . The program ' s purpose is to develop technical skills for graduates to own / operate and manage their own business . By combining entrepreneurial skills with a passion for agriculture / natural resources , for example , CTE students are prepared to pursue career opportunities in virtually any field of study . In addition , the Manufacturing Engineering CTE program was refocused to Precision Machining based on recommendations from industry leaders . Graduates will be prepared for careers in machining / machine tool operation , CNC programming / operation , and metalworking .
Finally , the new diversified occupations CTE program allows grade 12 students to obtain a part-time internship in a field of study not covered by Jersey Shore ’ s CTE programs . Students can branch out into industries , such as agriculture / natural resources , sports management , architectural design , criminal justice , and aviation technology , just to name a few . With more opportunities than ever before , Jersey Shore graduates are always career and college ready to meet the needs of the local workforce .
