The value of teamwork shows itself in Charbonneau
As the seasons change so do the sports we play and watch. When watching sports like baseball, soccer and football, we
MAUK notice various forms of teamwork on display.
What stands out when the field is crowded with players? Are they synchronized with each other? Or is it organized chaos? What’ s the difference between successful teams and those that sputter?
There are other fields of play where teams come into play, too. Here at Charbonneau we have many examples of that. Scheduling and hosting activities, sharing our many amenities, organizing and putting on events at our facilities, maintaining those facilities we enjoy and managing and operating the whole Charbonneau shebang.
As you’ ve been reading in this column, Charbonneau, through civic affairs, as well as property management, the communications committee, and Arts Association, is teaming with the city of Wilsonville on various functions and projects to preserve our property values and enhance our quality of life.
Something that sprang from these efforts was the recognition that teamwork begins well before any results reveal themselves. How the board works as a team is important.
Same for how staff functions together as a team and how residents interact with staff. Are our amenities structured with teamwork in mind? Are our teams performing at a high level?
These questions are being asked internally right now, with a goal to answer as many of them as we can between now and the end of the year. The first thing in doing this is figuring out what high performance looks like for the many teams handling the business of Charbonneau. We are consciously determining performance metrics for your board, general manager and staff.
The reasons for this are simple. It’ s because high-performing teams produce superior results. We benefit when Charbonneau effectively collaborates with the city. It’ s when our staff works together like a finely-tuned machine that our amenities, activities and events are humming. When your board is at its best, facilities get built, improved and maintained, and the balance sheet is solid green, not flashing yellow or red.
The budgets are in the final stages as this article is written and will be approved by the board about when you’ re reading it. Without dedicated teamwork among the board, coordinated with staff, the fine point of the pen would not produce a minimum level of dues, while also meeting capital, operating, reserve and contingency needs.
One of the elements that changed for the Seattle Mariners, which contributed to this season’ s great success, was a commitment to build a cohesive team. That same high level of teamwork is proving to be an essential, positive force powering Team Charbonneau to exceptional performance.
