CHEERS TO PROGRESS - CELEBRATE , REFLECT AND SET YOUR GOALS FOR THE NEW YEAR Gosh , who can believe that another year is coming to a close ? It ’ s the perfect time to press pause and reflect on our wins and the lessons we ’ ve learned along the way . I actually start my reflection time in late November - before Christmas hits and I ’ m too busy to appreciate the year that was and look forward to the year ahead .
My advice ? Celebrate your growth One thing that I ’ ve come to realise , especially this year more than ever , is that we overlook our growth and the milestones we ’ ve achieved . I think many of us tend to downplay our achievements due to comparison or feelings of unworthiness . However , I want you - scratch that , I NEED you - to please acknowledge your great moments this year .
Last December , I was gifted a fancy bottle of wine , which I tucked away to save for when I achieved one of my big cake business goals . Throughout the year I had some incredible wins , but every time I thought about celebrating , I hesitated to open that bottle . Why ? Because I didn ’ t think my wins were worthy enough . Reflecting back , I can see that it was due to a combination of imposter syndrome and that nagging inner voice telling me ‘ You could have done better ’.
Finally last week I sat myself down for a heart-to-heart - ‘ Amber , you damn well deserve this . You are worthy . Just open that bottle of wine ’. I poured myself a glass and allowed myself to truly feel happy about my achievements ( a rarity for my perfectionist brain ). Looking back , it seems silly that I felt unworthy of enjoying that wine .
Can you promise me something ? Before the end of the year hits , take at least an hour of your time to reflect on and celebrate your accomplishments . Whether you ’ ve mastered a new cake technique , resisted the urge to undercharge your work , or challenged yourself with new decorating projects , every step forward in your cake journey is a reason to celebrate - big or small . So go ahead , pour yourself a glass of your favorite bevvy and toast to all the hard work and progress you ’ ve made this year !
