Step 1 & 2
Have your 2 tier cake covered with your buttercream and stored in the fridge until it has set firm ( overnight ). Place your cake onto a turntable for ease , but this is not absolutely necessary . Assemble your tools and piping bags of buttercream for decorating .
Step 3 & 4
To start the design , we mark out 6 evenly spaced vertical lines around the top tier using your metal scraper . Now mark out your drapes on the base tier using the bottom half of the larger circle cutter . Pro tip : leave approx 1.5cm at the top and between the drape markings to allow for extra buttercream . This way your piping won ’ t looked squashed .
Step 5 Step 6 Using your lighter buttercream with the leaf tip , start piping over the straight vertical lines to make a frill . Continue for all 6 lines . Pro tip : practice first on a flat piece of baking paper to check the size of your frill and determine how much pressure to use on your buttercream bag .
Next pipe over the drape markings using the same coloured buttercream and leaf piping tip . Continue around the cake for all the drapes .
Step 7 Using the smaller circle cutter , centre it between the vertical lines on the top tier , and gently mark out your circles onto the buttercream using a rolling action .
