I have been with Amgen Rhode Island for eighteen years and have been a member of Amgen Black Employee Network ( ABEN ) and Amgen International Network ( AIN ) since their inception more than fifteen years ago . I am beyond grateful for the opportunities to engage to promote diversity , inclusion and belonging . As the leader of the ABEN group in the past two years , I have been able to increase staff engagement and have helped to advance equity and social justice in our state by working with Amgen Foundation to donate more than $ 400,000 to fourteen local organizations .

As a newly minted 2018 Rhode Island Latina , I am thrilled by my new work environment . I have always taken great pride working for Amgen and with the amazing people dedicated to serving our patients . While moving to Rhode Island away from loved ones was difficult , I began cultivating new relationships and began my diversity , inclusion and belonging journey . I embarked on a mission to create a Latin group at Amgen to enhance belonging and diversity by highlighting the “ sabor ” ( flavor ) that represents Latinos all over the world – showcasing that our differences make us a better team and that we have the power to evoke positive change around us .
