The Superintendent ’ s Cut

“ Wow , what spectacular weather we ’ ve had the last few weeks ,” is not an understatement . The LGCC maintenance team has been diligently working through the perfect storm of perfect weather . The recent weather pattern coupled with the historic rainfall received last month has created a flush of growth around the property . The team has done our best by keeping most of all the playing surfaces mowed appropriately , except for the rough which is always a work in progress .
The LGCC maintenance team is looking for ’ sward to the next several weeks as the weather should begin to get cooler at night and during the day to slow the growth of the turf . There are plenty of projects slated around the property for this Fall / Winter season . As a reminder some of the cultural practices and projects which will be conducted are not always “ golfer friendly ” so we ask for your patience and understanding as the maintenance team works to prepare the course for the winter season . Please , trust the process , as these practices will make a difference in the golf course for next summer .
The LGCC maintenance team will continue to work hard and finish the year strong . And as always , we are continuing to work hard in order to provide you , the members , with the best possible playing conditions in the Valley !
SUPERINTENDENT ’ S CORNER : This month ’ s topic was covered in the May newsletter ; however I feel it ’ s important to touch on the subject again heading into the Winter .
I urge you and everyone who plays in your foursome or group to please , please , please repair your ball marks on greens ! ( And maybe even a few more )!
I will again attach an article written for the USGA on the repair of ball marks .
1 . The proper technique for ball mark repair is easy and fast . Insert the ball mark repair tool behind the ball mark and gently pull the top of the tool toward the center . Continue working around the ball mark , pulling the surrounding turf in toward the center of the indentation . Avoid using a lifting or twisting motion because this
