OUR VETERANS
November 11th is Veterans Day , a national holiday for honoring military veterans . We asked members to send us information regarding their service to our country to share in the newsletter . We know there are many more than are represented here , and we want to say “ thank you for your service ”. Thanks to all who serve or have served in our military defending our great country .
Sandra K . Drewniak , Lt Col , USAF
Lt Col Sandra K Drewniak . Served from 1999 to present ( 22 years ) as a Staff Judge Advocate in the United States Air Force ( Active Duty , Air National Guard , and Reserves ) and will retire in the next 30 days . I am a new member along with my two daughters , Savannah 17 and Charlotte 11 .
Harvey Galloway
Harvey joined the Navy in October 1961 ..... went to OCS in Newport R . I . and was commissioned in February 1962 as an Ensign . Served 2 tours with the 6th fleet in the Mediterranean Sea on board the heavy cruiser USS Canberra CAG-2 . We also participated in the Cuban blockage in 1962 . For what it ’ s worth I ’ m considered a Vietnam veteran since my active duty ended in February 1965 ... after the Gulf of Tonkin resolutions was passed by congress in August 1964 . While in the inactive reserves , until 1973 , I attained the rank of Lieutenant .
Bob Hopkins , USAF 1960-1982
I was lucky enough to be a USAF fighter pilot for 17 years . My first assignment was to Vietnam where I flew 303 combat missions in the F-100 Super Sabre providing close air support for our ground troops . I also flew the F-111 “ swing wing ” fighter for 12 years culminating as a Squadron Commander and retired in 1982 as a Lt . Colonel . Another veteran is my wife , Gladie . Her love and support carried me through life ’ s journey . We ’ ve been married for 60 years .
